Guarding
/ Fixtures and Tooling
A major
brake parts manufacturer was presented with the problem of
identifying the parts that they manufactured in Australia
against parts of an inferior quality that had been manufactured
by a company from overseas.
They approached
NICHOL to see if there was an economical method of marking
the Australian made product. This was not only to be the method
of marking, but using a reliable machine that would meet with
OH&S requirements and yet be able to mark the product
within a reasonable cycle time.
NICHOL
produced the necessary drawings to be able to manufacture
the guards and the fixtures and supports for the equipment
that they recommended.
The fixtures
and supports were required to ensure the product was securely
clamped in position so that a constant legible mark was stamped
into the product.
In order
that the machine function correctly with the necessary safety
interlocks to ensure the completed unit was well within OH&S
requirements for the protection of anyone using the machine.
The service
personnel at NICHOL designed, manufactured and installed a
system of pneumatic and electrical components, controlled
by a PLC at the rear of the machine so that it was easily
accessible, yet did not prevent easy operation.
