Overhead
gimble / Guarding and Location Tooling
A major
Australian car manufacturer had a requirement that engines
that were to be sent overseas needed to be marked with more
information than was a requirement of the Australian industry.
They approached
NICHOL to see if there was an economical method of marking
engines that were currently being produced as a standard engine,
but could be marked in-line, thus preventing any variation
to their existing production. This required a reliable machine
that would meet with OH&S requirements and yet be able
to mark the product within a reasonable cycle time.
NICHOL
produced the necessary drawings to be able to manufacture
the guard for the moving parts of the equipment that they
recommended.
The fixtures
and supports were manufactured at NICHOL that ensured the
product was securely clamped in position so that a constant
legible mark was stamped into the product.
The TMP1700
was suspended from a gimble above the existing production
line, and information from the host computer was downloaded
into the TMC420 controller.
When the
TMP1700 was securely located on the engine, all the operator
was required to do was press the "Print" button and the information
was pinstamped onto the engine.
